Accused gunman Conrad Bloomfield, 36, of Lauderhill, remained hospitalized and on Tuesday was charged with attempted murder in connection with the incident. He and an unknown accomplice held up Andrew Hepburn inside his CAD Auto Parts shop at 2935 NW 17th Terr. shortly before 1 p.m. Monday, the Broward Sheriff’s Office said.

Authorities say Bloomfield and his accomplice each took a peek into Hepburn’s office, before returning to try to rob him moments later.

That’s when Bloomfield demanded Hepburn, 39, get on the ground at gunpoint after pulling him off his chair by the shirt. Bloomfield struck him on the head with the gun when Hepburn took too long to follow orders, according to an arrest report. Bloomfield screamed for his accomplice’s help as Hepburn managed to take the gun from him. Authorities say Hepburn shot at Bloomfield five times in the chest. Bloomfield’s accomplice shot Hepburn once on the right side of his chest, the report said.

So as the video shows, there’s two thugs milling around this auto parts shop, peeking inside at owner Andrew Hepburn as they prepare to rob him. One of the robbers looks like he appears to distract the shop owner before the other robber comes in the office with a gun, has the shop owner put his phone down, and roughly pulls him from his shirt to the ground. The whole confrontation is quite violent as the robber hits Andrew when he doesn’t lie down immediately, and stomps on his back before restraining his arms.

Then, luckily, a witness becomes involved, distracts the lookout robber and robber #2 steps away from Andrew to also help restrain the witness, then Andrew makes his move to trip, wrestle and disarm robber #2. In the struggle the witness books it, and Andrew manages to take the robber’s gun and shoot him five times in the chest with it and beat him a couple times with it. However before the other robber runs he manages to shoot Andrew in the shoulder.

Both Andrew and the robber that was shot and didn’t get away were taken in to the hospital, Andrew is expecting a full recovery however the robber is in critical condition.

This situation is an excellent example of defensive gun use, however it would have given Andrew that extra security to have already been carrying. He might have skipped the violent struggle for his life if he already had a gun on him. Fighting back like he did was extremely brave and exactly what society needs to continue doing.

I love this shop owner’s attitude, you can see in the video that he is NOT about to let his shop be robbed. He refused to let these thugs to rob him, and its amazing that this fight worked out for his favor, as it is always gambling to wrestle with a violent thug with a gun. More criminals will begin to catch on that an increasing amount of citizens are not allowing themselves to be easily victimized. Situations like this will always work for the public’s safety by deterring criminals and discouraging future criminals. Keep carrying and keep on.
