Armed robbers duck in gas station for some “free” lotto tickets, cigarettes: clerk not having it

Three men went into the Chevron at 3828 U.S. 80 at about 1 a.m. Tuesday and stole lottery tickets and cigarettes from behind the counter, according to Mesquite Police Department spokesman Sgt. Joe Smith.
One of the men was armed and demanded money from the clerk, Smith said. Surveillance video shows the clerk fight with the robber, take his gun and shoot him in the shoulder.
This gas station in Mesquite, Texas has taken some beatings. This robbery made it the second time that week it was robbed, and the fourth robbery since February of this year. Police say it’s been targeted so many times because it is one of the few businesses in the area open so late and it is a convenient location for a getaway.
The clerk working that night was probably fed up as the robbers made their way into the store stuffing stolen items into bags and was probably even more fed up when one of the robbers stuck a gun in his face and demanded cash.
Many would say that it’s not a smart thing to be a “hero” and fight against these dangerous criminals but not many others would stand up and say fight these criminals. The more citizens stand up and refuse to be another statistic, the more a criminal would think twice before committing said crime.
The clerk was pretty beat up, but this was after the fact that he wrestled the robber and gained just enough control of the gun to shoot him in the arm. That robber escaped only to crawl to a nearby field and be found by police.
Armed criminals have always proved to be unpredictable, and armed robberies can always go one of two ways. Criminals don’t see you as another human with a valuable life, they see you completely as what they need you to be. This clerk understood that his life was in danger and was not willing to let a criminal gamble with his life.
He refused to be a pawn in these idiots’ scheme, and determined who ultimately was an idiot.
The clerk was treated by paramedics for facial wounds, and is also looking into getting testicular reduction as he is tired of having such big balls.
