Man and two sons come home from work to find two armed intruders, bloody battle follows and one intruder killed in defensive gun use.
Shots were fired in the middle of the night. A mother of three young children called 911 when the violence started.
The frantic call came from the home on Scales, where a fight started. Her children were inside.Police say two armed men, Clement Cooper and Michael Long, had been burglarizing the house when a father and his two sons came back from work.
Fights broke out and a woman caught up in the scuffle was shot in the neck. The father and his two sons were stabbed. One suspect, Cooper, died on the scene. Police took Long into custody. He faces murder charges.
Alan Bolt spoke to 10TV News about the incident off camera. He lives in the home and said his brothers and father were stabbed multiple times in the fight. He said they defended their home. Bolt says the three children, ages four, three and six months, were inside but nowhere near the violence.
Police say Clement Cooper and Michael Long were burglarizing the house and when the father of the house and his two sons came home a violent fight broke out. The father and his two sons were stabbed, a woman in the house was shot in the neck, but the family managed to shoot and kill Clement Cooper.
Michael Long is in custody and is being charged with murder. One of the brothers that lives in the home said his family is fine and is in recovery after the fight for their lives. He also said the family owned and kept in the house more than a dozen guns.
The neighbors said to the news crew the neighborhood is not what it used to be.
“Within the last 5 years this community has went to hell and back. I heard some shots last night, it’s not the first time I’ve heard shots out here,” a man said who lived in the neighborhood and chose not to be identified.
This is not the only neighborhood that feels this way, cities that grow rapidly in population many times also have to watch their crime rates grow. People that have lived there for many years watch an otherwise peaceful neighborhood be thrashed by robberies, drugs and crime.
What people always need to be aware of are their rights, and their ability to protect themselves and their family from harm just like this man and his two sons did for theirs. If they had not stopped these men, who most likely were repeat offenders like almost every case like this, they most likely would have escaped and continued their crime spree other places. More families would be hurt and victimized.
What is amazing about this story is that this family refused to be victimized, and also sent a pretty valid warning to future thieves and criminals that come back to the neighborhood. Own a gun, get your concealed carry permit, educate yourself on safety and ultimately have a game plan for the possibility of a home invasion.
Defensive gun use like this happens EVERY day, families protect, citizens defend against criminals willing to rampage everything in their path. Let’s be prepared and continue to thwart criminals who come in our path. I guarantee you, thugs will hear about the criminal who broke into this family’s house and was shot and killed in self-defense, and will have second thoughts on messing with this neighborhood.
