Veteran’s defensive gun use prevails against armed robber.

Today has not been the day Don Rogers was expecting. “I wish the day could’ve went by without this happening,” said Rogers. “I just did what I had to do”
This Vietnam veteran was in this Sycamore gas station getting change for a 20 when his day took a bizarre turn. “I heard somebody say “put the money in the bag”. So I looked up and I seen this gentleman holding a pistol on the clerk,” said Rogers.
Fear quickly came over Rogers, but he knew what he had to do. The gun-carrying veteran pulled his weapon on the robber. “And when I did, he looked over at me and turned my way and I fired a shot. And he grabbed his side and then I fired two more shots before he got out the door,” said Rogers.
This Vietnam veteran was not going to stand by and let an armed robbery take place literally right in front of him. Don Rogers hit the robber twice out of the three times he fired.
The Robber jumped in a getaway car driven by his girlfriend and they got about three miles before pulling over and calling 911. He is in critical condition at the local hospital.
Meanwhile police ruled the case as self defensive gun use and the clerk is happy to replace shattered windows and thank Don Rogers for saving his life.
I couldn’t have said the following statement better, even if I had this Sheriff’s southern drawl.
“People are just sick of people running them up,” said Turner Co. Sheriff Andy Hester. “And robbing, and stealing, and pillaging, and people are tired of it. These people that’ll go out and do this kind of stuff need to realize- it ain’t always gonna fare to their favor, just because they’re a predator.”
Don Rogers said he was glad he had his weapon on him, but also said he had hoped nothing like this would ever happen.
This is along the lines of what many other people say in defensive gun use.
They don’t like having to shoot someone, a lot of times the people who like it are the offenders.
It is sad when we see people get caught in the whirlpool of crime and violence. However we are made up of our choices and just like people are aware of making good choices, they are aware of making bad choices.
If you make the choice to do a crime, be prepared for the consequences. People are making criminals struggle with making bad choices by showing them more instances like these: stories with consequences to crime.
Lawful and responsible gun owners are stopping murder, burglaries, rapes, and assault every day by pulling out their guns and not allowing criminals to victimize. As for Dan Rogers, we can thank him for his past service, and continued protection of our country by not letting another criminal prevail.
