Background Check Flaw Let Dylann Roof Buy Gun, F.B.I. Says

A loophole in the system and an error by the F.B.I. allowed the man, Dylann Roof, to buy the .45-caliber handgun despite having previously admitted to drug possession, officials said.

So the reports of where and how Dylann Roof obtained the gun used in the mass shooting in Charleston have been all over the map. We’ve heard “it was a gift from his father” we’ve then heard “the money was given by his father and he then purchased the gun himself” the latter seemed impossible when looking at the recent charges against Dylann Roof for drug possession.

So while it is great that the F.B.I. has come forward to admit their short coming on this matter the problem is this event has the gun-control folks all up in arms asking for deeper, and more intrusive, expanded background checks and what comes down to more draconian gun laws. Earlier this week Hillary Clinton went on the offensive in the wake of Charleston with an all out attack on our rights.

Now we see the truth, and the truth is the system that we already have in place would have stopped this gun purchase if that system was used properly. These all out attacks on our gun rights based on lies and half-truths need to stop, they are the thing that divides our great land. The shooting in Charleston was a horrific occurrence and this sort of thing should not happen but we can get absolutely nowhere by blaming a system that would have worked just fine without this mistake or even worse blaming inanimate objects like guns for the actions of a sick and twisted young man.
