Officer John Potter then watched Donald F. Scott — who was working as a security guard for Fox News at the time — open the rear hatch of a Chevy Suburban and pull a Glock handgun from his waistband, according to the officer’s account.

Television networks such as Fox provided security to accompany reporters and personalities, including Geraldo Rivera.

Scott, 50, has been in jail since the incident, held on $350,000 bail on two gun charges, according to the Baltimore public defender’s office.

There are two lessons to be learned here.

First, Giraldo Rivera should have thought twice before saying, “Like I’ve always said, the Second Amendment, the provision that gives every American the right to keep and bear arms, is blind and stupid.”

To bash gun owners and gun rights while under the protection of someone with a gun is laughable.  It’s akin to blaming fast food for obesity in America whilst digging into a supersized McDonald’s meal.

Second, this should have never been an issue for someone who works as part of a security detail.  It’s the same concept as the big rig drivers; certain professions should not have to worry about getting a concealed carry permit everywhere they go.

Could you imagine if a US Marshall had to get a permit in every state just to do their job correctly? Of course not, so why should US citizens whose professions take them countrywide have to?

It’s nice to stick it to a gun control activist like Rivera once in a while, but a non-story would be better in this case.  There is no reason for a member of Fox News’ security detail to be thrown in jail for possessing the tools needed to do his job.
