Unfortunately many companies would rather avoid legalities than save lives

A parking valet supervisor, employed with GM motors for 10 years, stopped a violent personal assault on one of his coworkers when he pulled out his handgun and pointed it at the attacker.
A 32-year-old woman showed up to GM and specifically asked for a 52-year-old female employee by name. When the employee showed up, the 32-year-old pulled a knife and repeatedly stabbed her.
Didarul Sarder, GM’s valet supervisor, was armed and prepared and was able to stop the attack when he pulled his concealed firearm. The victim survived but is in the hospital in critical condition.
Sarder’s wife was the only one that could be contacted, and she said her husband was told to get off the premises after the attack.
The mayor of Warren, home of the GM tech center where the attack happened, said the valet service terminated Sarder for violating his contract. They said carrying a gun and responding to the attack was against company policy and contract.
“In my opinion, if it’s true, the bottom line is he should be given his job back,” the mayor said. “He clearly saved someone’s life…You outta reward heroism, not terminate it.”
GM Spokesman Michael Albano said Wednesday afternoon that the neither GM nor the valet service contracted by GM has fired anyone.
One employee at the Tech Center, who was not authorized to speak on behalf of the company, told the Free Press that workers there are hailing the valet as a hero who likely saved the victim’s life.
Fouts saidthe employee was stabbed in the neck, abdomen and back about 9:30 a.m. and was taken to a suburban hospital after what authorities believe is some sort of domestic dispute between two women, who know each other. He said the suspect was taken into custody but has not been charged. He said the victim was in critical condition and required surgery;
Albano said that he had no update on the employee or details about her to release. He said the main lobby area off of Van Dyke, where the incident occurred, is closed but the rest of the Tech Center is open.
It sounds like there are some things that need to be worked out. While the mayor is saying Sarder was fired for his actions, GM might be covering for themselves by saying that they didn’t fire him… Much is still unknown.
Either way the mayor is 100% right, this man should be rewarded for his actions: he saved this woman’s life. We hope she’ll be able to pull through the attack.
Wouldn’t a company want to have more employees like this around? Of course you have the legality of the situation, but in the end this man followed the law and saved a life. How could you be against that?
We hope justice prevails in the end for Didarul Sarder, and that GM and the valet company will realize the truth. It saves lives to be armed and prepared.
