TROUP, TX (KLTV) –One man is facing several charges after he allegedly broke into a family’s home in the Troup area and was shot by one of the homeowners during a fight Tuesday.

According to the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office, dispatchers received a 911 call around 8:30 a.m. from a woman who said she had shot someone who was breaking into her home, located on County Road 4808 near Troup.

The sheriff’s office said it appeared from their initial investigation that the suspect broke in through the front door, and confronted several people inside. One of the homeowner’s arrived home several minutes later and was attacked at the back door. According to authorities, the husband and suspect fought for several minutes, before the husband was able to break free and run inside the home.

The suspect followed the man back inside his home, and the fighting continued. The homeowner’s wife ordered the suspect to stop and leave, but when the suspect continued the attack, she shot him once, according to the sheriff’s office. Authorities are not saying where the suspect was hit. The husband detained the suspect until deputies arrived.

This story shows the power and true capabilities of a gun used in defensive situations. The homeowner’s wife grabbed her handgun when the attacker persisted to beat her husband, ultimately shooting the culprit and eliminating the threat with the pull of a finger. Game over.

Imagine if the homeowner’s wife hadn’t had her sidearm handy. The man, even after recognizing that a gun was being pointed at him, kept attacking the husband with no hesitation. The situation was only ended when the woman opened fire on the man. If not for the use of the firearm, the intruder would have beat the husband to death before the authorities even got there.

So many situations, including this home invasion, call for the use of an open or concealed carry. Some threats require immediate action, and can end a nightmare in a split second.
