Judge Overrules School’s “Gun Free Zone” Policy
“I think schools being gun free zones is not a wise idea,” said Kenneth Herman, who sued after being told by his daughter’s Clio school that he could not carry a weapon there. “I think having law-abiding armed citizens in there provides some measure of protection that isn’t a glass door that can be broken out.”
The ruling came down supporting the open carry of firearms in the schools however there is a good point being made by the attorney for the school district.
“If I’m a principal and I’m sitting in my office and I see someone walking up to my building with a gun, what am I supposed to do?” Mullins said. “What they do is declare a lockdown, they call the police. Kids are afraid. Teachers are afraid. Education stops. And then the police come.”
Which in my opinion makes the point for what I am in support of which is concealed carry on campus. There is no need to have everyone on campus alerted just by your presence. Besides if criminals know that concealed carry is permitted on campus this could serve as an even bigger deterrent for school shootings as these criminals would know that anyone on campus could be carrying and they would however not have any idea who to target.
Ultimately ‘gun free zones’ need to be done away with and people who are permitted to carry need to carry anywhere and everywhere they go. When it come to the criminal mentality that is the only truly effective deterrent from violence, armed resistance.
