Kansas lawmakers approve concealed carry without permit
TOPEKA, Kansas (AP) —Kansas is poised to join a handful of other states that allow their residents to carry concealed firearms without a permit after the Legislature gave final approval Wednesday to a bill backed by the National Rifle Association.
The measure was headed to Republican Gov. Sam Brownback despite some lawmakers’ misgivings about the state dropping its requirement that anyone seeking to carry a concealed firearm undergo at least eight hours of training.
Brownback’s office didn’t say what his plans are, but he’s signed every other major gun-rights measure sent to him since taking office in January 2011.
Kansas would become the fifth state to allow concealed carry without a permit everywhere within its borders, according to the NRA.
“Carrying a gun is a lifestyle,” said Republican Rep. Travis Couture-Lovelady. “The government should trust its citizens.”
It is truly a thing of wonder when you see someone in government make sense. Here we have Rep. Travis Couture-Lovelady reveal one of the most common truths of any good country – “The Government should trust its citizens.”
Sadly, America has changed from the days when our government did trust us to a our modern age where our Government does not trust us one bit.
In fact, they trust us so little that they are constantly spying on us, putting us on lists, and creating entire departments of Government just to monitor us and determine who they think is dangerous.
It is for these very reasons why our founding fathers declared that our rights to bear arms could never be infringed upon.
So it is with great fanfare to hear that Kansas has restored its faith in its citizens, and are acknowledging the right of Constitutional Carry.
A quite astute person left a comment on the original article which pointed out that bad guys already Concealed Carry without a permit, so why not allow good folks the same opportunity to defend themselves?
Since Gov. Brownback has supported every other pro-gun bill that came across his desk during his tenure, we expect he will pass this one too.
Unlike the cowardice W. Virginia Governor Earl Ray Tomblin who waited to veto Constitutional Carry the morning after the current session of state Congress adjourned.
Congratulations to Kansas and its people for electing representatives with your best interests at heart.
