Pizza delivery man packs heat, stops attempted robbery
Police say a robbery attempt was stopped when the potential victim pulled out his gun.
The attempted robbery occurred when Gary Royer, a gun owner, was delivering pizza to a residence at Sibbet Avenue in Douglas.
The suspect, identified as Antavious McTear, approached Royer and threatened him with a metal bar.
That’s when Royer pulled out his gun and pointed it at McTear, who turned and sped away in his car.
Authorities caught him a short time later and booked him into the Coffee County jail.
We have unfortunately heard too many horror stories lately of pizza delivery people being killed, raped, and robbed at gunpoint.
Their employers refuse to allow them to carry a firearm, and thus are left defenseless against these bad guys.
So to hear that an armed pizza delivery guy was carrying when he was attacked and ended up sending the bad gun running is refreshing.
In this instance, the bad guy (Antavious McTear) thought the pizza delivery guy (Gary Royer) would make an easy defenseless target.
The bad guy threatened our pizza delivery guy with a metal bar, only to find Gary Royer was carrying a gun.
Gary took out his firearm to defend himself and sent Antavious running for his life.
Eventually Antavious was picked up by police later and arrested. Sweet Justice.
We fully support pizza and other delivery drives having the right to carry a firearm to defend themselves.
Hopefully companies like Dominoes and Papa Johns will soon feel the same way and protect their drivers.
