A legal team investigating the Obama administration’s order that certain American military veterans deemed “incompetent” give up their weapons says the problem is worse than expected.
People who live with veterans now are being ordered not to possess a gun, and some veterans are told they can “buy back” their Second Amendment rights by giving up their veterans’ benefits.
This is sickening.
How dare the Obama administration enforce such audacious and thoughtless policy onto our veterans. These heroes deserve better. If our Constitutional rights were earned through acts of patriotism, these honorable warriors would deserve them more than any other American citizen.
But that’s not the case- our rights are inherent at birth. The Second Amendment should never be taken away unless you’re a felon or underage.
Obama and his gun-seizing political mobsters don’t seem to understand this.
Thousands of veterans are receiving these letters from the V.A., essentially stripping their Second Amendment rights in less than 500 words. I wish I could say I’m surprised by the actions set forth by Obama and his cronies. But when we’re dealing with the same administration that warned, “returning veterans possess combat skills and experience that are attractive to rightwing extremists”, it’s hard to be shocked by what they’ve implemented here.
What’s worse, many of the veterans have no idea why they made it on the list in the first place. Some get a nasty surprise when they attempt to purchase a firearm. Their Second Amendment right may have been stripped because of a routine visit to a psychiatrist or psychologist. What is this country coming to?
Nothing good, I assure you.
The metaphorical cherry on top comes in the form of the punishment if veterans are caught with a firearm after being stripped of their Second Amendment: cold, hard jail time. It’s a shame to think that some veterans, who risked their lives for our freedoms, may come back just to get those same freedoms taken away. Instead of treating them like the heroes that they are, Obama’s administration chooses to ostracize these great men and women.
To counter this injustice, we must spread the word through the country. We must send ripples of discussion through our society. We must protect our Constitutional rights from our own tyrannical government.
