Man takes shot at burglar
An Augusta man told police he shot at a person he found burglarizing his home while he slept Sunday morningThe man, 69, told police he woke about 2 a.m. to hear noises coming from the kitchen of his home on Circular Drive. Armed with a .357 revolver, he went to investigate and discovered the silhouette of a man in the kitchen. According to a Richmond County sheriff’s incident report, he fired a shot, prompting the burglar to run out the back door.Deputies noted the kitchen drawers and cabinets had been rifled through by the burglar. A steak knife had been pulled from one of the drawers and left on the counter, the report stated. A bike that did not belong to the resident was found beside the back door.
By the sounds of the initial reports, the burglar was in possession of a steak knife. The culprit may have used it if the homeowner hadn’t been armed with his .357 revolver. There’s no doubt that without a firearm, the victim would have been easy prey for the knife-wielding intruder. Just one shot in the burglar’s general direction was all it took for him to drop the weapon and flee like a coward.
The Augusta homeowner was aware of his surroundings. He listened and responded to the threat at hand. With a home-field advantage and a .357 to boot, this guy already had the upper hand when confronting the intruder.
There’s nothing more swift and efficient than the use of a defensive firearm.
