Chet Billi, a junior at Whitefish High School, filed paperwork with the Montana Secretary of State last week for the first voter initiative proposed so far for the 2016 ballot. The student decided to take action after legislation to allow teachers to carry on campus tanked in the state Senate. With that in mind, he decided to get involved.

“I’m bothered by the fact that when school shootings happen, the first thing people want to do is take guns away from the people who could stop it,” Billi told KTVQ.

It is beyond encouraging to see the youth of our nation stand up for gun rights, especially when schools have traditionally shown such discrimination against gun rights.

Even though Chet isn’t old enough to vote, he is old enough to submit a proposal to the Secretary of State.  If he gets enough signatures the proposal will make it onto the ballot by 2016.

A similar bill failed previously by a narrow margin, somewhat due to opposition built up by Everytown and Moms Demand Action.  Chet Billi’s proposed bill is even more extensive than its predecessor.

The previous proposal would have allowed lawful concealed carry on college campuses, Billi’s proposal would allow teachers with carry permits to bring their guns to schools from elementary all the way to college.

Chet Billi only needs to collect 24,175 votes to get his proposal on the ballot. If you live or know someone in Montana make some noise and spread the word about this young man’s awesome plan.
