A Domino’s delivery man who shot an alleged armed robber Sunday night did so in self-defense and will not face any criminal charges, according to the Albuquerque Police Department.

The man who police say robbed the pizza chain’s location near 12th and Menaul was in critical condition Sunday night, but improved to stable condition Monday morning, said APD spokesman Tanner Tixier.

Our Take:

Once again, another Domino’s delivery driver can be thankful that he disobeyed the company’s anti-gun policy. As a result of his defiance, he’s still alive today and has effectively put another piece of scum into a hospital bed. We should celebrate with a pizza, but not from Domino’s; anywhere but there.

The problem here lies in Dominos’ stern stance on their employees who are unable to carry while at work. I understand there are jobs within America that require an absence of guns, but this is not one of them. Pizza deliverymen and women are obviously targeted for several reasons: convenience, carriers of cash, and lacking any type of backup when lured into an attack.

They need weapons-firearms-to protect themselves against the random acts of aggression. The act of holding up pizza deliverers is becoming a trend, and those within the business cannot rely on the mobile phone in their back pocket. As criminals move their focus onto a new group of vulnerable victims, we must as a society counteract this by helping to arm these people.

Our Second Amendment right guarantees us the right to keep and bear arms, and it shall not be infringed. I see it being infringed here! Imagine if the Domino’s delivery driver had not been armed in that Albuquerque parking lot. The 52-year-old Gerardo Alvarado may have killed him without a second thought.

We should all have the inherent right to protect ourselves, even when we’re on the job. Crime doesn’t just magically disappear between the hours of 9 to 5. We should be able to carry so as to confuse the enemies and leave the criminals guessing.

The delivery driver broke the rules Domino’s that have been set in place. His consequence: being alive. He will never have to put his life in jeopardy for the sake of hot pizza.

You can bet that this guy will job hunt for a place that allows concealed carry, which is completely understandable.
