Woman shoots ex-husband during dispute in South King County

A dispute between former spouses escalated into violence and ended with the woman shooting the man in the hip Tuesday evening near Covington.
The couple, who had divorced earlier but since reconciled, were at a home in the 29800 block of Kent-Black Diamond Road when a 911 caller reported a loud argument around 10 p.m.
By the time King County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrived a few minutes later, the 46-year-old woman had fled to a neighbor’s house. Fearing for her safety, she apparently had shot her 48-year-old ex-husband with a handgun, said Sgt. Stan Seo, sheriff’s spokesman.
The man was transported to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle with a non-life-threatening injury.
The woman was not booked, as it seemed she acted in self-defense, Seo said.
The report claims that the two in question were previously divorced but had recently “reconciled” their differences. I’m no marriage counselor, but I wouldn’t consider shooting the other person in the hip a sign of reconciliation. Either way, this woman defended herself against her apparent aggressive husband.
Shooting him in the thigh was probably not exactly where she would’ve liked to land the shot, but I’m sure it slowed him down. The use of her firearm gave her a chance to run to her neighbors. It opened up an opportunity to get away.
The story explains that when the police arrived on scene, the woman had already shot her 48-year-old ex-husband and ran to her neighbors home. This leads me to believe that things escalated quickly, and that law enforcement may have been to late to save this woman.
