Would-be Portland robber wields knife, but victim pulls gun
Police are looking for a man who they say used a knife to rob a woman on Gilman Street in Portland on Friday afternoon.
He asked for money and threatened her with a knife after she said she had nothing to give him. The woman again told the man she didn’t have any money and then got in her car, where she had a handgun. She pointed the gun at the man and told him to leave her alone. The man left in an unknown direction.
It’s nice to see stories like these popping up in the news more often than ever. Normally the headline would read, “Defenseless woman robbed of her belongings at knife-point” or “Woman stabbed by robber in parking lot.”
Those are the kind of news headlines you would see in New York, where getting a permit to carry is legendarily difficult. Or New Jersey, a state responsible for the death of a woman who was killed by an ex-boyfriend while she was waiting a month to get her gun permit.
Luckily this attempted robbery happened in Maine. Maine, the state that just passed a reciprocity law which validates concealed carry permits from other states with the same law. Maine, a state on track to restore “Constitutional Carry” for its citizens, meaning you won’t even need a permit to carry a concealed weapon.
Starting to see a trend? Gun control puts the good guys’ lives in danger, gun rights puts the bad guys’ lives in danger.
