Arming All Pilots

Former Obama pilot: Give all pilots guns if you truly want to safeguard against terrorism or hijacking

Gun control laws are subject to a great deal of debate, but there shouldn’t be any disagreement about the desirability of pilots carrying guns in the cockpit.

This is nothing more than common sense. If you can trust them to fly you through the air you should be able to trust them with a gun. The deterrence factor to would be threats alone would be worth every penny a program like this would cost. Looking at the programs we now employ this program would cost a mere fraction of what we currently spend with no tangible results.

I am not sure why the TSA has any sort of objection to a program like this other than perhaps it shows their inability to properly do their jobs. This pilot refers to the TSA as “utterly inept” and I honestly can see his point. The TSA seems to be all about ‘spend spend spend’ on programs that are new and unproven and in a lot of cases require massive expenditures on new technology that may or may not improve the safety of our flights as a whole.

The way I see it the Federal Flight Deck Officers program (FFDO) is not only a good addition to the current TSA methods it is perhaps the most effective deterrent we have when it comes to real flight security.
