“I just felt like with what’s going on in many of the public sectors where there seems to be a lot of shootings we need to take the same stance that we do in church on Sunday for our kids Monday through Friday,” says Pastor Perry Black.

The pastor has already made the move to have armed protection for Sunday services and now has added that armed security to the school five days a week. Pastor Black says there will always be between 1-7 armed and trained staff members in the school at any given time. Theses armed staff members began training at the beginning of this year and have completed that training with local law enforcement for defensive gun use and the staff’s concealed carry permits. He posted some signs in front of the Arkansas Christian Academy in Bryant that read, “Staff is armed and trained. Any attempt to harm children will be met with deadly force.”

Arkansas Attorney General Dustin McDaniel shot down plans to arm teachers in Arkansas public schools earlier this month but this pastor has appropriately taken matters into his own hands. The way these the ‘gun free’ zones have been targeted in last decade I think it is high time for more schools to do the same. Public schools should be implementing these policies nationwide, my older kids have been through the public school system in our local area and aside from the lower education standards within public schools my only major contention has been this “lock down” policy public schools have now implemented.

These lock down policies are useless in my opinion leaving children as nothing more than sitting ducks with absolutely no form of self-defense to wait for law enforcement that in most cases is a minimum of 20 minutes out. My wife and I now have an 18 month old and a baby that will be here soon, both of these children will not be attending public school and will be in a private school like this that have made the all to important move to actually protect children.
