In what is normally a quiet, family neighborhood near 288 in Freeport, neighbors heard the unfamiliar sound of gunfire Tuesday afternoon. “Gunshots were fired,” a caller told a 9-1-1 operator. That operator had already taken several calls. “Yes,” she answered, “we have officers on the way”

When Lake Jackson Police arrived, the found a 15-year-old boy on the front porch of the home with two bullet wounds. They soon learned he was a burglary suspect, and the shooter was a contractor who was working at the home, painting the garage.

“All of the evidence does indicate they were acting in self defense,” said Lake Jackson Police Chief Rick Park.

The 15 year old teen had a weapon underneath him, and the contractor told police when the boy initially pointed the gun at him, he was licensed and used his own gun to shoot the teen first. He shot the teen in the hip and shoulder, and the other burglary suspect, a 16 year old, got away but was arrested later for aggravated armed robbery in a different instance nearby.

Police identified both teens as suspects in two other aggravated robbery cases in the area, and one of the victims won’t cooperate in the case, most likely out of fear. The homeowner of the house the contractor was working on refused to have their home filmed on the news out of fear also.

Police believe the crime sprees from the teens had escalated. The 16 year old teen’s father defended his teen and followed him to the police station. He said that kids get falsely accused every day, he believes his son is innocent because the boy claims to be innocent, and that he is innocent until proven guilty.

I’m just going to venture a guess here and say that both boys are guilty! Yes that was typed with laughter… In this case the evidence is extremely strong.

Two teens found a way to get guns, take advantage of scared people in wealthier neighborhoods, and they would get away without any consequence. It was an escalating crime spree because no one would stop them, they saw armed robbery as such an easy opportunity to get what they wanted, and they definitely got that! That is – until an armed citizen put an end to their fun with defensive gun use.

“Any time that you display a weapon, whether you’re licensed or not,” added Chief Park, “you should be aware that you may not be the only one with one.”

Well said Chief Park, play with fire and you’ll definitely get burned. Was no one monitoring these teens? Where are the parents that should be checking in on what their teenagers are doing? I’m sure these boys were sneaky but they had to be keeping stolen items and using them, where are the parents to ask these questions?

Well one of the boy’s parents instantly believes his little angel boy over police who could’t have been able to arrest the teen without hard evidence in the first place and says he’s innocent with that infamous statement that seems to be resonating in stories like these recently. “Kids get falsely accused every day!” This is exactly the problem today, even though there is nothing but evidence that proves guilt, people want to take the attention away from the criminal and place it somewhere else.

People are completely buying into the huge agenda right now by starting wars using the race card or the bad police card. We need more people like this contractor who refuses to be intimidated by an armed teen robber, and we need more people refusing to be pawns in the race and police witch-hunt wars. Criminals make choices and they need to be held accountable, we need to stop allowing the blame to be shifted elsewhere.
