Police say a 17-year-old remains in the hospital in critical condition after the young father he tried robbing shot him several times.

It happened late Wednesday afternoon near the corner of Warren and Grayton on the city’s east side.

Angela Lanier tells 7 Action News her 24-year-old son Joe fired his gun when the teenager tried robbing him while he was sitting in his car. She says he was on the job as an exterminator when the teenager pulled a gun on him for his sunglasses.

Angela Lanier encouraged and helped all her children get their concealed carry permit, she is a firearms instructor and taught all of them gun safety and responsibility. She told the news this defensive gun use was the first time her son had to fire his weapon, he shot a total of 7 times blowing out the windows of his car before driving to safety and calling the police.

She was very outspoken about the parents of the teen that tried to rob her son at gunpoint, “Maybe if you had taught him a little bit better, to respect other people and get out here and get a job, then it might have not turned out that way for him.”

cloak tuck 3.0“Thank God it was not my son,” She said, “And I’m not burying him. If you and your children do not have felonies, I advice everyone to pack.”

This story happened in— can you guess? Detroit! Where citizens have been arming themselves and crime rates have been decreasing for the past couple years after the Chief of Police encouraged the people to arm themselves and fight back against the criminals.

This woman is absolutely right, this instance of gun use was justified self defense and she should be proud of her son for refusing to be a victim. If we have more people like her and her son, cities with high crime rates will slowly start to emerge from the fog of victimization and start to deter crime instead.

In this instance, the issue is the teen who thought he could point his gun in a man’s face and force him to turn over his belongings. If that teen had been taught correctly he wouldn’t be on the street, probably with an illegal weapon, robbing people which lead to him being shot. If more parents took responsibility and we had more people addressing the issues in our society, more crime would be deterred and we would have a safer America.

Instead time and resources are wasted by those who point blame at our right to bear arms: our constitutional right to protect ourselves against criminals and the possibility of tyranny. People need to start waking up, we need to help others realize the benefits of carrying and to do so before it is too late.

A parent has it right. Thanks for putting the blame where it should be. On the teen and the lack of parenting by the parent. Highly doubt a dad was present

They should have posted this one in the Gun Humor section.

“If that teen had been taught correctly he wouldn’t be on the street, probably with an illegal weapon…”
Ummm . . . there is no PROBABLY about it. He was 17. Being in possession of a handgun is illegal, unless he was under the direct supervision of an adult.
