One burglar leaves on foot and is caught, the other drives until he’s too injured to continue

A resident defending his property shot an attempted breaking and entering suspect, ultimately leading to his arrest Wednesday evening.

Around 3:30 Wednesday, police say a resident came home to his residence in the 8300 block of Merryvale Lane to find two subjects inside his home. During the confrontation, police say the resident fired shots at the suspects. One of the suspects fled on foot, while the other fled in a vehicle.

A short time later, CMPD received word of an accident at the intersection of Sam Wilson and Old Dowd Roads; there they found a vehicle stopped in the middle of the road with the driver suffering a life threatening gunshot wound. The driver was taken to CMC Main by Medic. Officers identified the driver as a suspect in the breaking and entering on Merryvale Lane.

Police thanked community members for assisting in finding the suspects, as you can be pretty sure these criminals looked out of place in this pristine, usually crime-free neighborhood. Both suspects are in custody, and no charges have been filed.

This is another win for defensive gun use, this homeowner was protecting his right to carry and defend himself, and thwarted some criminals’ plans to rob him while he was gone. Punks like these need to know that if they want to risk their lives to steal and do illegal activities, citizens can and will shoot them. We need to continue to get stories like this out there, so criminals ask themselves if it’s worth it.

If this man was unarmed or if the people in this neighborhood didn’t stop these criminals, they would continue to take advantage and there would be a string of robberies that would probably grow violent. This is just common sense, correct? Apparently not. What was supposed to be an objective article about a man using defensive gun use against home intruders turned into a political agenda. This author with this news branch of NBC, WCNC, took this story and completely twisted it by adding the following.

Police say the answer is clear — you should never fight back. Their biggest piece of advice — DO NOT RESIST!

Here are other ways to protect yourself:

— Try to stay calm: Don’t make any sudden movements to upset the robber.

— Tell the robber about anything that might surprise him for example, someone is on their way home.

— If you have to move or reach, tell the robber what you’re doing.

— And of course, try to get a good look at the robber so you can describe them later.

I know, it’s pretty appalling. So if someone is in our house, endangering our lives, and we have no idea about these people other than the fact that they are willing to commit an illegal activity in broad daylight, we are supposed to just lie down and play dead until the police arrive? That means that you are willing to take your life and put it in the hands of a complete stranger.

That stranger can do anything they please to you and then get away before police arrive, also increasing the chance of more people being victimized.

I don’t know about you, but like this homeowner – I REFUSE to let that happen. Your life means nothing to criminals other than what it can or cannot do for them. ALWAYS fight back, practice your right to bear arms and be prepared for whatever may come your way.
