A 21-year-old Wilmington man is nursing a gunshot wound and facing gun charges after police say he threatened a man’s life and ended up on the wrong side of a shootout on North Tatnall Street.
Wilmington Police say that Marcel Dixon allegedly pointed a handgun at a 33-year-old man in the 2400 block of N. Tatnall Street before dawn on Sunday and threatened to kill him. Dixon fired multiple shots but missed, police say.
Fearing for his life, Dixon’s would-be victim pulled out a gun he was legally carrying and fired back, striking Dixon once in his upper right leg, police say. As Dixon fled, he fired once more, again missing the victim.
Marcel Dixon doesn’t sound like a very smart man. He is in the hospital in stable condition and faces charges for possession of a firearm by a person prohibited, reckless endangering, terroristic threatening and carrying a concealed deadly weapon.
After the gunfight, and after Dixon was shot and the threat was eliminated according to the man who legally used his gun in this situation, police immediately responded. Can you guess who called the police in this instance? Of course the man who was legal through the whole circumstance, and utilized defensive gun use to protect his life. He had a legal permit and was threatened by a man with an illegal firearm who wasn’t afraid to break the law.
This is such a happy outcome to such a dangerous situation. Who knows, if this man wasn’t carrying, he wouldn’t have chased Dixon off, and I’m sure Dixon wouldn’t have left before he put several rounds in the man he threatened.
Defensive gun use situations like this happen all the time: if fewer people were armed and prepared, more criminals would take advantage of them.
The facts are there, more guns = less crime.
