Defensive Gun Use: Man identified as Joshua Robinson shot and killed by girlfriend.

At this time the authorities are not proceeding with charges against the woman who appears to clearly have been defending herself. Robinson which was her boyfriend was reported to have forcibly entered her home, he has a long history of domestic violence against this woman and others. During the altercation the woman was able to get her hand on her firearm and shoot her attacker. Emergency services pronounced the man dead at the scene.

The woman who still remains unnamed at this point was released from the sheriff’s office and the case will be turned over to the District Attorney Michael Guest who will present the case to the Rankin County Grand Jury.

While it does sound like the woman acted in self defense and will clear from criminal charges she could of course face civil charges from the family of Robinson. This to me is a very unfortunate side of our legal system, I don not think families of this type of ‘victim’ should be able to seek civil action in these cases. This is like the person that comes to rob your home and is met with a chest full of lead but survives only to sue you after the fact. Worse yet these families of the ‘THUG victim’ coming after law abiding citizens who were protecting themselves, there is no room for this civil action in our legal system.

We need to get to a place where we do away with political correctness and do away with any and all rights of the convicted criminal or we will never make any headway against violence and crime in our country. I am not sure exactly how we ended up in a place where criminals could be considered victims but we are here and it is high time we turn this ship around. Defensive gun use is the only sensible answer in cases like this and when the actual victim of the initial attack has to worry about legalities above safety we as a society have failed.
