Concealed carry fashion show comes to Indy
INDIANAPOLIS – The worlds of fashion and firearms combined Saturday in Indianapolis for a first-of-its-kind event downtown.
The fundraising event was put together to support the Indiana chapters of The Well Armed Woman, an organization created to empower female gun owners.
Organizers said the event allowed women to take safety into their own hands, and to show it off on the runway. Guns of all sizes and colors were available to appeal to and empower female gun owners.
“We were always the protected gender, right?” said The Well Armed Woman founder Carrie Lightfoot. “We had the men in our lives or law enforcement, and it’s different now.”
As women participation in gun ownership continues to rise, we will most certainly see more events like this. This is a great event for not only females, but for gun enthusiasts everywhere. Fashion is a huge industry, and very much part of the mainstream culture. To see the two industries merge for an event like this can only bring good things to gun culture.
More importantly, however, is the fact that the gun industry is adapting to meet the needs of female concealed carriers. There are simply not enough good devices out there designed for women to effectively carry concealed. Of course there are purse holsters, and bra holsters etc.., but how many of them have been designed by women for a broad audience of women?
Holster companies are still learning the functionality challenges that women face from carrying that men do not, and vice versa. Furthermore, holster companies have realized that just making something pink does not necessarily make it appealing to women. Women desire more fashion to go with their functionality; and this fashion show is a testament to that growing need.
