A Harris County grand jury on Monday declined to indict 27-year-old Joseph Potts.

Authorities say Potts, who is a concealed hand gun license owner, shot a 2-year-old bull terrier named Diesel at the Bay Area Dog Park in January. Potts told police that the dog was aggressive toward him, his wife and their two pets.

No one wants hear about a dog dying, but I can confidently say most of you would like being attacked by a dog even less.

If just your personal well being is threatened by a 25 lbs dog, the use of a handgun might be a little excessive.  Now, because the man’s children were in danger he acted totally within reason.

Try to imagine taking your family for a walk in the park and being attacked by an aggressive dog without having a firearm.  The best case scenario is still probably going to be ugly, and that’s if your lucky enough to run into a 25lbs dog.

This story provides good food for thought; most people think of a concealed carry as a tool to defend from criminals, but you never know in what way it could save a life.
