13 Year-Old Shoots One Armed Robber Fatally, Sends the Other One Running for His Life

Armed robbers target the wrong house, find a 13 year-old ready with his mom’s pistol

About 1:30 PM in Charleston, SC, two armed robbers chose a house in a neighborhood called Woodside to rob. A young 13 year old was home working on his online schoolwork when he saw a car pull up and idle behind his house. Then he saw what he suspected, one of the robbers got out with his gun ready and attempted to break into his house.

He then went and grabbed his mom’s pistol because he feared for his own life, and began shooting at the robber. The 13 year-old shot one of the robbers three times until he fled, when the other robber drove him to the hospital where he died later from his gunshot wounds. The robber had a Colt .45 pistol that he used to fire back at the 13 year old boy, but ended up dropping it while he ran.

The boy’s mother said that she had the gun at the house for protection, but she had never trained her son to use it.

I tell my kids that if anything ever happens to call 911, but I also tell them to protect themselves if they have to,” she said. “I never would have dreamed that this would have been a a part of our day today.”

The boy was too shy to comment Tuesday about what happened, his mother said. The boy’s mother described him as a good kid who is quiet and listens well. She said he only opens up to family and that he told her he wished the shooting never happened.

Both robbers had an extensive criminal history.

This is exactly why our Second Amendment is in place, this 13 year-old’s mother was constantly afraid for her family. I’m sure she had heard about crimes and burglaries happening around her and didn’t want her family to be the next victims, so she practiced her constitutional right and bought a firearm for home protection.

If she hadn’t who knows what would have happened to her young boy at home. Criminals do not care about anyone else but themselves, and if they have a history of violent crime and are carrying a gun into a robbery, they would not think twice about shooting anyone that gets in their way.

cloak tuck 3.0It has always been this way, there are bad people willing to do bad things to get what they want. It was this way when our constitution was written, our forefathers specifically wanted every man to have the right to protect himself and his family.

What the anti-gun people don’t get is that trying to get rid of violence by getting rid of guns leaves people like this defenseless. A young 13 year old boy would have no chance against two grown men. Even if there are laws that prohibit people from having guns the bad people will always find a way to get them, but the good people will be long disarmed and easy targets. We have gun-free zones that have proved this time and time again: 92% of mass shootings from 2009 – 2014 have happened in gun free zones.

Lastly, if there is a gun in the house, there should always be training for the children in the house. Parents, have a game plan for situations like this, practice with your children. Its terrifying thinking about the possibility of this happening but it should be even scarier to think about your child using a gun without any practice or training. If your child is old enough to be left at home alone, you should have practice drills to help teach them what to do in the event of a home invasion. Of course this is all dependent on your children’s age, as there are different things to teach them as they are younger or older.
