Fourth of July weekend shootings left nine people dead — including a 7-year-old boy — and at least 53 others injured from Thursday evening to early Monday.

Another very tragic weekend in Chicago has authorities wondering what to do next. As we reported recently concealed carry numbers are finally climbing and Cook County has the highest number of concealed carriers in the state. Unfortunately the overall percentage of carriers is still below .5% of the population. Illinois has created this violent landscape over the years be refusing its citizens the ability to defend themselves and though it is horrible to say there will be many more deaths to come until we start to see the numbers rise more significantly on citizens who are ready to defend themselves and their neighbors.

We cannot allow our cities to become killing fields like this, while advocates for gun-control cry “no more guns” what we truly need is no more guns in the hand of criminals. Legal gun ownership not only protects the people who are armed but also the people around them as criminals are a lot less likely to victimize innocent people while there are armed citizens around. The fear alone of people defending themselves (or having the means to) has been proven to deter violent criminals.

The above graphic shows what gun-control really does to our cities, it is important to note that the national average barely moved during the period being looked at here. What we need are facts, facts which allows people to truly make informed decisions about gun ownership. If people took the time to get the fact before jumping on the “Disarm America” bandwagon what we would see would be more declines in violent crimes across our great country.

The death of 7 year old Amari Brown was both tragic and horrific and looking at his fathers gang affiliations and 45 past arrests it is easy to understand that we need this type of scum off the street and that if he were that his son would still be alive.
