A man went into a bank waving his gun around, announcing a hold-up, and actually robs a large amount of cash from the tellers. All the while the current customers were doing what they were told and probably waiting for the situation to blow over so they could get out safely– except for one customer.

The robber was on his way out of the bank with the cash, but he pointed his gun and made this 63-year-old customer feel threatened. The 63-year old pulled out his gun that he was legally concealed carrying, and shot the robber three times, once in each arm and once in the leg.

cloak tuck 3.0The robber still tried to flee but barely made it outside the bank doors when he collapsed and dropped the cash. Police easily handcuffed the robber and the bank recovered all of the stolen cash. A man who lived nearby heard loud bangs and the police cars racing by went to see what was happening and said he saw the suspect lying on the ground handcuffed, and “screaming his head off.” I’m sure the robber’s scream was equal parts pain and regret from pointing his gun at a prepared concealed carrier.

This concealed carrier did everything within his rights, he probably should have shot more center mass however, in order to shoot to stop the threat because there’s always a possibility that he could get in legal trouble for shooting to cause injury if the limbs are shot at.

Either way he was exercising his Second Amendment and not letting a robber and criminal point a gun at him and gamble with his life. These situations are necessary, a lot of criminals feel unstoppable if they have a gun to wave around, but this criminal will probably not think about doing any criminal activity for a while. Defensive gun use like this not only saves lives but deters criminals.

Surprisingly enough, listen to what the town mayor had to say.

“I’m happy that no one was seriously injured,” Mayor Jim Fouts said. “He apparently exercised some caution by not shooting the robber in a vital area.”

Sounds like someone isn’t so fond of guns… he also discouraged “people using firearms unless absolutely necessary.” Wasn’t the defensive gun use in this situation absolutely necessary? The robber pointed his loaded firearm at this concealed carrier, meaning there was a 50% chance the robber would either shoot or move on. Would you be willing to let an unpredictable robber with a gun gamble with your life that way? This man wasn’t, he felt threatened and he felt he needed to act.

The concealed carrier actually would have been safer if he would have shot the robber “in a vital area” against what the mayor said. That would have eliminated the threat and the chances of the robber getting up and shooting back at him. You are within your rights if anyone chooses to point a gun at you threatening your life, and you pull out your legally concealed firearm and shoot and even kill them. Criminals make that choice to threaten someone’s life with a gun and take the chances of losing their life from their reckless and stupid behavior.

Apparently though the

WARREN, Mich. -A man who was robbing a Citizens Bank near 9 Mile and Van Dyke roads on Monday was shot by a customer at the bank. Police found two guns at the scene. The bank is at the corner of Van Dyke Road and Timken Avenue, which is a few blocks north of 9 Mile Road.

The robber initially fled the bank on foot but was found lying on the ground bleeding. He was taken to the hospital with a gunshot wound. No other injuries have been reported.

Local 4 has learned the robber walked into the bank and announced a hold-up. He received money from a teller and then pointed the gun at the customer, who shot him. He shot him in both arms and the leg.

“I live right behind the bank and I just heard all this commotion, and I saw a cop car come flying down, like flying down, my street and slam on his brakes. And I thought maybe there was an accident,” said Bromly Daves. “So I came out and I could see (the person who was shot) from my front porch laying on the ground, screaming. He was laying on his back, holding his leg and screaming his head off.”

The bank robber is described as a 43-year-old man. His injuries are not considered life-threatening. The customer is cooperating with police. He has a concealed pistol license, police said. Stay with Local 4 and ClickOnDetroit for more information as it becomes available.
