Huntsville woman shoots boyfriend in self-defense, won’t face charges

Woman killing with gun man. Home violence concept

A domestic incident on Binford Drive ended with the woman critically injuring her boyfriend Tuesday morning. Huntsville police have determined it was self-defense, and she will not be arrested at this time.

The 24-year-old woman told police the two of them were fighting inside their home in the 200 block. She said he started choking her and she fought to get away. She eventually got hold of a handgun and shot him in the abdomen.

The boyfriend, 32, drove himself to Huntsville Hospital, police say. His injuries were life-threatening so he was taken directly into surgery. Police did not have an update on his condition Tuesday afternoon, and a hospital spokeswoman said he is not listed there.

“There is a history of domestic violence between the two. She is not being charged at this time. The investigation is ongoing,” states a release from the Huntsville Police Department.

The investigation is ongoing.

There’s no doubt in my mind that the use of a gun saved this 24-year-old woman’s life. This situation was bad news. Her abusive, lowlife boyfriend began to choke her, and odds of her survival began to dwindle.

But then she acted.

Like a fierce warrior, she fought back and managed to get away from her aggressor. When the young woman grabbed the gun, it was all over for the boyfriend. With her newfound empowerment, she put a piece of lead into the abdomen of the attacker and sent him to the E.R.

So long, loser.

As the abusive boyfriend lays handcuffed to a hospital bed, let’s consider how this situation could have played out if not for the gun. It wouldn’t be nearly as happy of an ending, I’ll tell you that. Just like millions of other defensive situations, the firearm didn’t just level the playing field-it gave our victim the upper hand.

Whether it be an open or concealed carry (or in this case, a gun in close proximity), the use of such a powerful weapon can save a life and put an idiot in a hospital bed with one pull of a trigger.
