Gun Control Group Funded Heavily By Bloomberg Passes Stricter Background Checks On Firearms In Oregon

$750,000 had a great deal of influence over the new bill passed in Oregon which calls for tighter background checks on the sale/exchange of guns

The political fight over whether Oregon should have universal gun-sale background checks is over, for now. But a potentially nasty battle over implementing the new law is only just starting.

Senate Bill 941, which expands background checks to include most private person-to-person and online gun sales, became law on Sunday, 90 days after Democratic Gov. Kate Brown signed it.

On Monday, Eugene Mayor Kitty Piercy held a brief press conference to announce a new television ad that will air in the Eugene and Portland markets over the next two weeks. The ads are paid for by Everytown for Gun Safety, a gun control advocacy group funded by former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg that has spent heavily on lobbying for SB 941.

Data was released by the Oregon Government Ethics Commission that said the anti-gun group Everytown for Gun Safety spent $750,000 to pass these laws, but it has also been revealed that this group Everytown is funded majorly by personal donations from Michael Bloomberg. The period when this amount of money funded this law and commercials for it was from January of this year to June.

The NRA, in contrast, spent $48,572 in that same period. Comedian and anti-gun advocate Amy Schumer argues made the statement that money is the center of America’s gun control problem. This is another one of those moments that anti-gun ranters are completely ignorant and their “insight” is completely upside down, like a dog chasing it’s tail.

Many people advocating for this new law in Oregon say the same thing as others in the 8 other states that have this same law, including Washington, that this will make the public safer and more responsible, and of course the eye-rolling statement we all are sick of hearing, “It will make it harder for criminals to get guns.”

We all know that this law will most likely not be enforced, as several Sheriffs said to the press in Oregon, and also as law enforcement does in Washington, and that it is a disconcerting yet also laughable effort to squelch criminal violence.

Most of the time, criminals don’t get their guns legally, they will always find ways around the system to continue getting what they want. The issue here is that anti-gun politicians are painting guns to be evil things and they want them taken away from society. Guns are not the problem, they are inanimate objects, people are the problem. Laws like this that are passed only prove to punish and restrict law abiding citizens who are just practicing their right to the Second Amendment.

We know that there are also more instances or defensive gun use than actual victimization of innocents by criminals with guns. Gun ownership increasing has proved to decrease crime. The point of these laws pushed by Bloomberg and other billionaires/politicians is not about public safety or any of their ludicrous claims, it is about control and the infringement of our right to bear arms. Guns have never been the problem, people have always been the problem and that won’t change unless guns grow legs and brains. If our guns are eventually taken away innocent people will be victimized and left defenseless.

We need to fight more laws like these, like the people in Washington that fought the similar draconian i594 law that was passed. We need to continue practicing our right to bear arms, because a right not exercised is a right taken away. We need to support those in office and vote those into office that respect our right to the Second Amendment.

We need to continue showing others the facts, and not buy into the lies. We need to show others that defensive gun use discourages further criminal activity, and that being armed is safe, not dangerous. Continue fighting for our freedom, and it won’t be taken away.
